Hema Malini shares rare photos with her mother from dancing days, acting sets on birth anniversary
Hema Malini shared montage video of throwback photos as she remembers her mother.
Hema Malini recently shared a video comprising a series of unseen pictures of herself with her late mother on her birth anniversary. Sharing the video, the veteran actress also expressed her gratitude to her late mother for standing by her side throughout her life and career.
Hema Malini remembers her mother on her birth anniversary
On January 3, Hema Malini shared a reel on her Instagram handle featuring a series of stills from the golden days with her late mother Jaya Chakravarty. The Sholay actress added monochrome photos of her mother who accompanied the actress on various occasions in her career. The pictures added in the montage video vary from them standing backstage at the actress's dance performances to her mother's portrayed photographs.
Sharing the video, the actress wrote, “Today is so special for me! It is my darling mother’s janam din-a day I celebrate every year ever since she left me. I introspect so much on this day, recalling how much she has contributed to my life and career and how I owe her everything I am today. Thank you, Amma. My love always.”
When Hema Malani's mother pushed to do Baghban
Hema Malini had earlier revealed that it was her mother Jaya who had convinced her to sign Baghban where she eassayed the role of a mother of four grown up sons who didn't want to take responsibilty of thier retired parents. In a previous interview, the actress shared that she was hestitant to take the role. “But my mother said, ‘No no no, you must do it!’ I said, ‘Why?’ ‘No, the story is very good. You must do it.’ How she was after me. I said, ‘Okay, I’ll do it.’ But before that I felt… See, before that, I wasn’t doing films. After a long gap, I was working. So I thought, ‘Why should I do this?’ But she said, ‘No, you must do this. The role is very nice.’” she recalled the conversation.
The film was critically acclaimed in its year and was a hit. The film also featured Mahima Chaudhary, Aman Verma, Paresh Rawal and Rimi Sen in the key roles.
Career trajectory of Hema Malini so far
Hema Malini made her acting debut in Tamil cinema with the 1963 film Idhu Sathiyam. She then made her debut in Hindi cinema with the 1968 film Sapno Ka Saudagar. She went on and delivered several hits including Trishul, Seeta Aur Geeta, Sanyasi, Naya Zamana and Dharmatma Pratigya among others.
She also ventured into direction with the 1992 film Dil Aashna starring Divya Bharti which she also produced. In the late 1990s, she took a break from acting and made her comeback with family drama in 2003 Baghban starring opposite Amitabh Bachchan.
Hema Malini is also a successful politician. She was a Rajya Sabha MP between 2003 and 2009 and then she won elections consecutively in 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Mathura constituency.
