Jigra Director Vasan Bala's Cryptic Reply To Nepotism Accusations In Alia Bhatt's Casting

Jigra is all set to hit the big screen on October 11, coinciding with the Dussehra holiday. The movie is directed by Vasan Bala and features Alia Bhatt with Vedang Raina in the lead roles as siblings. Produced by Dharma Productions, a statement made by the director ahead of release caught the attention of social media users bringing forth issues of nepotism. Following back and forth between the producer and director, Bala has seemingly shared a cryptic reply.

On October 6, days before Jigra's release, director Vasan Bala took to his Instagram account to share a cryptic post. In the post, he shared two photos of a prominent hoarding. One featured the poster of Alia Bhatt in Gangubai Kathiawadi. The other showcased the actress' poster from his directorial Jigra.

Sharing the poster, the director wrote, “The photo on the left, I had taken in 2022 and wished…The photo on the right at the same spot, 2024! Wish fulfilled!” Further, without mentioning anyone, Vasan Bala added, “Of course we can keep discussing other things too, to each his own.... October 11th will be the final answer.” Alia Bhatt reacted to the post by dropping an emoji in the comment section.

What did Vasan Bala say about Alia Bhatt 's casting in Jigra and how is it related to nepotism?

In a recent interview with Tried and Refused Productions, Vasan Bala recalled seeing a rough draft of Jigra to the film's producer, who without his knowledge, forwarded it to Alia. He shared, “I was really not happy with it. I was like, 'I would have at least done some spellcheck, grammar check, hygiene, written some very nice hero entry. So that email was sent, I was like, 'Why did you do this?'.” Alia Bhatt shared that she thought the script was incomplete when she first received it.
 

Reacting to the same, the producer took to his Instagram account to share that Bala's comment was blown out of proportion and he meant no foul against Alia or the production house. However, social media users opined that Vasan Bala desired to cast someone else in the movie but the interference of the producer made Alia Bhatt bag the role. Netizens have alleged that nepotism played a role in Alia being in Jigra.
