Kiran Rao’s Bollywood film Laapataa Ladies is celebrating another victory as it has been chosen as India’s official entry for the Oscars 2025. Directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan, the film tells the sweet comedy story of two newlywed brides who accidentally swap places during a train journey to their husbands’ homes.

The movie features a fresh cast including Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava and Nitanshi Goel in lead roles. Since the announcement, Laapataa Ladies has been trending online, with fans who have seen the film expressing their excitement over its Oscar selection. But, what’s even more surprising is the film’s modest budget.

As per Siasat reports, Laapataa Ladies was made with a mere budget of ₹4-5 crore, yet it has minted approximately ₹27 crore worldwide. 

A contradictory report by Pinkvilla estimates that the film's budget was approximately ₹10-11 crore, and it was sold to Jio Studios for ₹20 crore.
