Laila Majnu: Triptii Dimri Reflects On Film's Failure, Recalls Thinking Her Fame Would Skyrocket

Laila Majnu Re-release: After a positive reception to its re-release in Kashmir, Laila Majnu is all set to hit the big screens nationwide on August 9. The film, shot prominently in Jammu and Kashmir, was re-released in Srinagar on August 2 and was received well. It stars Triptii Dimri and Avinash Tiwary in the lead roles.

Triptii Dimri reflects on Laila Majnu's failure

Laila Majnu offered Triptii Dimri her first lead role in Bollywood. The Animal star expected the film to perform well at the box office, but that did not happen. The movie raked in a meagre ₹ 3.20 Cr at the domestic box office.

While talking at the re-release event of the film, Triptii reflected on her expectations with the film. She said, “I thought I’ll be so famous that I won't be able to step down and buy vegetables.” However, she expressed even though this did not happen, the film did get its due. She added, ”But aaj wahi log jab bolte hai ki ‘Galti ho gayi, kaash big screen par dekhi hoti. Itni acchi film thi,’ toh lagta hai ki haan der hai andher nahi hai. Aur humari film ka dialogue mai use krungi iske liye ki ‘Humari kahaani likhi hui hai’ (But today when people say, ‘I made a mistake, I wish I’d seen it on the big screen. It is such a good film,' then it feels like it’s late but not dark. And I’ll use the dialogue of our film here: 'Our story has been written’).”

Imtiaz Ali announces re-release of Laila Majnu

Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has said that Laila Majnu, starring Avinash Tiwary and Triptii Dimri, will re-release nationwide on Friday, days after the 2018 film hit the screens in Srinagar. The romance drama is written and presented by Imtiaz and directed by his brother Sajid Ali. It is produced by Ali's former wife Preety and Ekta Kapoor. Laila Majnu, a modern-day adaptation of the classic folklore, received a lukewarm response at the box office but over the years it garnered a cult status.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Imtiaz thanked fans for their love that has led the Hindi film to re-release in cinema halls after six years. "Laila Majnu back on popular demand!!! Gratitude to your love that pulled it into theatres again after six years!! Re-releasing 9th Aug ‘24 in cinemas nationwide (check picture) congratulations team LM," he wrote. Tiwary and Dimri, who later collaborated on the 2020 Netflix film Bulbbul, have come a long way in their careers.
