Laila Majnu Re-release: Triptii Dimri Starrer Outperforms Ulajh, Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha

Laila Majnu Re-release: The Triptii Dimri-Avinash Tiwary starrer made a return to the big screens six years after its initial release. The romantic drama failed to impress the audience at the box office upon its initial release. However, over the years, Sajid Ali's directorial earned a massive critical response. The movie hit the theatres on August 9 and has been registering a decent business ever since.

Laila Majnu set to cross it's original box office collection

Laila Majnu got a new life at the box office on its re-release. In a usually unheard-of phenomenon, the film is set to cross its original collection in its second innings. As per Sacnilk, “Laila Majnu grossed approximately 25 lakh on the first day of its proper re-release (August 9, Friday). As word of mouth grew, the movie witnessed a 200% jump on Saturday to gross approximately 75 lakh collection.” This has taken the film's total collection to ₹1 Crore in a two-day theatrical run.

With a positive word of mouth, the movie is expected to uphold a decent business on Sunday and surpass the collection it did during its original release. The movie raked in ₹3.25 crores gross in domestic collections when it was first released in 2018. Laila Majnu shot prominently in Jammu and Kashmir, was re-released in Srinagar on August 2 and was received well. It stars Triptii Dimri and Avinash Tiwary in the lead roles.

On Day 2 Laila Majnu rakes in a better collection than Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha and Ulajh

While on August 9, Laila Majnu enjoyed a solo release at the box office, significant films like Ajay Devgn-Tabu starrer Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha and Janhvi's Ulajh had hit the big screens a week before. Though the collections of both films remained dismal from the release date, Laila Majnu emerged as the first choice of cine-goers this weekend. 

On Friday (day 8), Ulajh and Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha raked in ₹35 Lakhs respectively. The following day, Janhvi's film minted ₹55 Lakhs while the latter struggled at ₹54 Lakhs. 

Imtiaz Ali announces re-release of Laila Majnu

Laila Majnu was written and presented by Imtiaz and directed by his brother Sajid Ali. It is produced by Ali's former wife Preety and Ekta Kapoor. Laila Majnu, a modern-day adaptation of the classic folklore, received a lukewarm response at the box office but over the years it garnered a cult status.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Imtiaz thanked fans for their love that has led the Hindi film to re-release in cinema halls after six years. "Laila Majnu back on popular demand!!! Gratitude to your love that pulled it into theatres again after six years!! Re-releasing 9th Aug ‘24 in cinemas nationwide (check picture) Congratulations team LM," he wrote. Tiwary and Dimri, who later collaborated on the 2020 Netflix film Bulbbul, have come a long way in their careers.
