Priyanka Chopra headlined the 2008 film Fashion. Directed by Madhur Bhandarak the film also starred Kangana Ranaut, Mugdha Godse and earned critical- commercial acclaim. However, during a recent event, the actress revealed she was advised against starring in the movie as it was a ‘female-led’, women-centric role. 

Priyanka Chopra says after Krrish she sought roles that ‘challenged her’ 

On October 29, Priyanka Chopra held a masterclass with Bhumi Pednekar as a part of Jio MAMI film festival. At the event, the Citadel actress mentioned how she decided to change her career trajectory after Krrish and Aitraaz. She asserted that before starring in the movies, she would worry about her next projects and would choose from whatever was offered to her, but later she changed her approach. 

During the conversation, Priyanka recalled, “Before Krrish and Aitraaz, it was always there, 'Oh my God, what's the next (movie) one I'm going to do? What is the opportunity that is going to come to me?' I picked from what came to me. After Aitraaz and Krrish, I had done work which gave me a solid foundation. I got critical acclaim. I had people telling me 'I know my job', even though I didn't know I knew my job. That is when I started seeking work that would challenge me.” 

Priyanka Chopra reveals what people told her before she starred in Fashion 

In the same discussion, Priyanka recollected choosing to sing Fashion right after Krrish. She said, “I took the decision of signing Fashion right after Krrish, and at that time I was told, 'Ladkiyan (leading actress) female-oriented films career ke end mein karti hai, National Award ke liye (actress take up female-oriented films at the end of their careers for National Award). You have just done Krrish, Aitraaz, female-oriented films kyu kar rahe ho'. Uss zamane mein itna hota bhi nahi tha (Back then, there were not many female-centric films).”

Looking back, Priyanka asserted that Fashion was a ‘passion project’ and she never thought the film would become as successful as it was. The actress received the National Award for Best Actress for her role in the film. Interestingly, Fashion completed 16 years of release on October 29.
