Sam Bahadur Box Office: Vicky's film witnesses more footfall on its 2nd Saturday than opening day

Vicky Kaushal's much-anticipated Bollywood biopic, Sam Bahadur, was released on December 1. The war drama, portraying the life of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, India's revered military figure, garnered a substantial₹49.87 crore nett in India within its initial days. The film's global collection stands at an impressive ₹58 crore, with ₹8 crore contributed by overseas markets and ₹50 crore from India.

The movie's opening week proved to be robust, collecting ₹38.8 crore. Maintaining a steady pace into its second week, Sam Bahadur defied the typical decline in collections observed post the opening weekend. The second Friday witnessed a 16.67% increase, collecting ₹3.5 crore. The momentum continued into the second Saturday, where the film experienced a substantial surge, raking in ₹6.75 crore.

Sam Bahadur kicked off its theatrical journey with a promising opening day, securing Rs. 6.25 crore. The film's collection reached ₹9 crore and ₹10.3 crore on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Despite a noticeable dip on the first Monday, the film's box office figures stabilised over the weekdays.

Sam Bahadur vs Animal

Drawing comparisons with Ranbir Kapoor's Animal, which also hit the screens on the same day, Sam Bahadur stands out as a financially successful venture. The Vicky Kaushal starrer, made with a budget of ₹55 crore, has not only recouped its costs but also turned profitable.

In contrast, Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal has emerged as a box office hit, amassing an impressive ₹600 crore. This milestone cements its position as the most successful movie in Ranbir Kapoor's illustrious career, surpassing the previous record held by Sanju, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, which minted ₹588.50 crore.

Vicky’s latest release Sam Bahadur is a biographical war drama film based on the life of India's first field marshal, Sam Manekshaw. It is directed by Meghna Gulzar . Set against the backdrop of the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War, Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw led the Indian Army from the front leading to Bangladesh's liberation.

Talking about playing Manekshaw in the film, Vicky agrees that there was something unique about his aura.

He said: “His aura was not limited to the uniform. It was not like when he would wear his uniform he would have this aura and when he’s not with this aura. He just had this aura and flamboyance spirit that heart which would cut across a room full of people irrespective of whether he is in a uniform or not to crack that … spirit was the focus was on that a lot more than just his body language.”
