Akshay Kumar starrer Sarfira witnessed a spike in numbers over the weekend but failed to attract the audience on Monday. Despite the positive reviews, the movie had a low opening of ₹2.5 crore on Friday. Owing to positive word-of-mouth, there was a rise in daily collection on Saturday and Sunday managing to earn ₹12.50 crore.
On the fourth day, Sudha Kongara's directorial witnessed a major dip in the numbers - ₹1.40 crore, per early estimates reported by Sacnilk. Adding the fourth-day collection, the movie's total business stands at ₹13.9 crore. Sarfira had an overall 11.63 per cent Hindi occupancy on Monday with the maximum reported in Bengaluru (14.50 per cent).
Sarfira is not the only film that is struggling at the box office despite garnering positive reviews. In the recent past, well-made content-driven movies like Maidaan (released in April) and Chandu Champion (released in June) faced a similar dilemma.
According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the movie needs to collect over ₹3 crore by Thursday else Bad Newz (releasing on July 19) will overtake the Indian market and it will be difficult for Sarfira to cope.
Co-starring Radhika Madan, Paresh Rawal, Seema Biswas and Suriya, the movie is a Hindi remake of the National Award-winning Tamil movie Soorarai Pottru (2020). It is an adaptation of G. R. Gopinath's memoir, Simply Fly: A Deccan Odyssey. The film follows a man who sets out to make affordable airlines for low-income people, which several enemies try to impede. 2D Entertainment, a production house, marks its maiden venture in Hindi. Sarfira marks Akshay Kumar's 150th film in a leading role.
