Singer Alka Yagnik Diagnosed With Rare Sensory Hearing Loss, Requests Fans For Support

Veteran playback singer Alka Yagnik has been diagnosed with a rare sensory neural nerve hearing loss. She informed her fans through a social media post on Monday. The 58-year-old has crooned numerous hit tracks in the 90s and 2000s such as Ek Do Teen, Mere Angane Mein, Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai and many more.

Alka Yagnik shares the condition caught her off guard

Taking to her Instagram handle, Alka Yagnik shared a heartfelt post explaining that the recent diagnosis is a "sudden major setback" which caught her off guard. She further revealed that this was the reason why she was missing in action and is still coming to terms with it. "A few weeks ago, as I walked out of a flight, I suddenly felt I was not able to hear anything. Having mustered some courage in the weeks following the episode, I want to break my silence now for all my friends and well-wishers who have been asking me why I’m missing in action," she wrote.

Opening up about her diagnosis, she wrote, "It has been diagnosed by my docs as a rare sensory neural nerve hearing loss, due to a viral attack…This sudden, major setback has caught me completely unawares."

The veteran actress requested her fans and colleagues to pray for her and urged them to be cautious regarding exposure to very loud music and the use of headphones. "One day, I wish to share the health perils of my professional life. With all your love and support I am hoping to recalibrate my life and come back to you soon. Your support and understanding will mean the world to me in this critical hour…" she concluded.

Soon after she dropped the post, her industry friends and fans flooded the comment section with praying for speedy recovery. Veteran singer Ila Arun wrote, “So sorry to hear this Dearest Alka I saw your picture and reacted, but the I read , it’s heartbreaking, But WithBlessings . She is one of the most prominent singers of 90s era Bollywood and received several accolades including two National Film Awards. In her career spanning four decades, she has sung songs for more than thousands of movies and recorded over twenty-one thousand songs in over 25 different languages. She made her debut in the musical world with the film Payal Ki Jhankaar in (1980). This was followed by Laawaris (1981) with the song Mere Angane Mein, followed by the film Hamari Bahu Alka (1982). However, she got her big break with the song Ek Do Teen from the film Tezaab (1988).
