Tara Sutaria, who is gearing up for her next release Apurva, recently spoke about her frustrations of not being taken seriously as a performer, and her looks being a bigger topic of discussion and conversations than her performances or choice of roles. We often tend to do this with actresses: Tara Sutaria
Tara expressed her frustrations of being typecast to certain parts and films so far. She stated, “It’s extremely frustrating to be put in this box because of the way that I look. I’m saying it very bluntly and honestly because that’s the feedback that I get in every single meeting that I go to even now.” She further said, “We often tend to do this with actresses is that ‘she looks this way so she must do this way and she must perform this way’. But nobody actually takes the time out to really think about what else one can do."
Apurva is a great blessing, says Tara Sutaria
At the same time, Tara thanked Apurva makers Murad and Nikhil Bhat for the opportunity, adding, “They are letting me do something that has truthfully been a dream of mine ever since I began my career.” Tara further expressed her hopes that Apurva will push people to broaden their own horizons about her potential.
When asked about choosing a gritty-looking film like Apurva that features The Student of the Year 2 actress in a raw, rugged look, Tara replied saying that she doesn’t think of it as much of a risk, also called the film the greatest boon in my career so far. Tara added, “This is the opportunity to portray something as real and far away from so much else that I’ve done. I don’t know why people call doing female-centric films a risk - it’s a great blessing.”
