Vicky Kaushal is currently gearing up for the release of his forthcoming film The Great Indian Family. This movie is his third family entertainer film after this year's Zara Hatke Zara Bachke and Govinda Naam Mera (2022). For an actor who is known for his intense films like Masaan and Uri: The Surgical Strike, one after another light-hearted projects may seem like a conscious decision on his part. Talking about the same, Vicky stated that he has never gravitated toward family dramas with the objective of "breaking an image".

3 things you need to know

  • Vicky Kaushal stars opposite former Miss World Manushi Chhillar in The Great Indian Family
  • The film is directed by Dhoom 3 fame Vijay Krishna Acharya.
  • It will release in theatres on September 22.

Vicky Kaushal makes film choices from the heart

In a conversation with PTI, Vicky confessed that he is not signing projects in an effort to break his image. The actor said, "These (The Great Indian Family, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke and Govinda Naam Mera) were not done with the mindset that, 'Oh, I need to break a certain kind of an image and build a certain kind of image'. It is more of a decision from the heart. I heard the story, it stayed with me, and I wanted to be part of it.”

Vicky added that he is not a calculative person in terms of signing films. He said that when he has a burning desire to work in a certain genre he gets on the lookout for it. The script, the director and playing a character he hasn't played before are really what matter the most to him.

What is The Great Indian Family about?

The Great Indian Family is written and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya. The film revolves around Vicky’s character Bhajan Kumar, who is the heir to a religiously inclined musical troupe from a small town in Uttar Pradesh. Bhajan Kumar has labelled himself the "undisputed king of Bhajan" programs in his town. However, his pious image also comes in the way of his love life.

Most importantly, TGIF promises to touch upon the subject of communal harmony as the protagonist battles an identity crisis when a letter claims he was born as a Muslim.
