When Aamir Khan 'Stole' Taare Zameen Par From Akshaye Khanna And Confronted Him Later

Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par is one of the most loved films till today, thanks to the touching storyline and concept that not many talked about. It follows the story of a boy who has dyslexia and his teacher who helps him uncover his potential. It is a musical family drama directed by Amole Gupta and what captivated fans is the chemistry between Ishaan and his art teacher Ram Shankar. But not many know that Akshay Khanna was the first choice as art teacher Ram Shankar Nikumbh for the 2007 hit movie Taare Zameen Par, not Aamir Khan.

Does Aamir Khan steal Taare Zameen Par from Akshaye Khanna?

Dishoom actor Akshaye Khanna once confessed that he was supposed to star in the 2007 social drama Taare Zameen Par, but Aamir Khan took it.

In an old interview with Mid-Day, Akshaye Khanna mentioned that filmmaker Amole Gupte intended to offer him the lead role for Taare Zameen Par. However, as he wasn't familiar with Akshaye, Amole Gupte requested Aamir to introduce them. Akshaye further said, “Aamir being Aamir, told him I cannot recommend a script unless I hear it first. So make me hear it; if I like it, I will tell Akshaye. But he (Aamir) liked it so much that he did it.”

Khanna expressed that he had no issues with Aamir taking on the role. When Aamir met him to discuss the film, Akshaye responded, “It’s ok. No problem."

Border actor also shared that after the release, Aamir admitted to him that he had done an excellent job, even better than Aamir himself. The actor said, “It’s ok. No problem. I don’t think I could have done a better job than Aamir. He was superb. So it was good that destiny took him.”
