When Ranjeet's mother threw him out of the house, apologised to Rakhee after watching Sharmeelee

Ranjeet, who was one of the first villains in the entertainment industry, recently recalled that his mother did not like work in the film Sharmeelee. For the unversed, Ranjeet made his Bollywood debut with Sharmeelee back in 1971. He played the antagonist in the movie.

What did Ranjeet say about his role in Sharmeelee?

In an interview with Radio Nasha, Ranjeet shared that his mother was hurt when she saw him abuse and behave arrogantly with actress Rakhee Gulzar on screen in the film Sharmeelee.

Sharing the reaction of his family members, he said, "When I entered the house, everyone was sitting together. The moment I entered late at night, everyone gave me such intense looks as if someone would take out a bullet and fire it at me. My mother then stood up, and the first thing she told me was, 'How dare you enter this house?'"

He then asked her, "What have I done?" Responding to the question, she replied, '"Have you left anything that's still to be done? You pull women's hair, you tear their clothes. What kind of work is this? Become a doctor, a major, or an officer. What is this job? Get out of the house. How will we return to Amritsar now? We don't have to do anything with you.'"

Ranjeet said, "My mother started crying after looking at her. She said, 'Satyanash ho mera putar da. Mein maafi mangti hu tujhse (To hell with my son. I apologize to you).' Rakhee made her understand in her broken Hindi that we are good friends. Then they accepted."

What is the plot of the film Sharmeelee?

Sharmeelee directed by Samir Ganguly released in 1971. The official synopsis of the film reads, "Captain Ajit Kapoor returns home from his army base to his father, who declares that he wants him to marry. When Ajit meets the girl, he is delighted to see that she is the same girl who caught his eye at a party only a few days before. However, it seemss that the girl is, in fact, a twin, leaving both parties heartbroken."
