Actress Deepika Padukone addressed her battle with depression and anxiety during her recent appearance on a chat show, also recalling how her husband Ranveer Singh stayed a supportive figure through it all. Ranveer Singh was accompanying Deepika on the chat show when the actress talked about the subject.
Ranveer created a safe space for me: Deepika
Deepika Padukone first spoke about her battle with depression and anxiety in 2014, at the prime of her career after delivering back-to-back hits like Ye Jawani Hai Deewani, Chennai Express, and Bajirao Mastani. Talking about how Ranveer supported her through the entire phase, Deepika Padukone added, “What he (Ranveer Singh) did at that point was that he created a safe space for me to open up. Not once did he say, 'It's okay, forget it', or 'just let's go on a drive' or anything of that sort. At that point, he didn't understand it much, today he understands it a lot better. But he was just all there. He has been so patient. It told me a lot about the person that he is.”

At this point, Ranveer spoke about often feeling helpless whenever he would see Deepika feeling emotional and teary-eyed. The Gully Boy actor recalled in great detail when he first saw Deepika in that state sometime in 2014. He recalled getting a call from Deepika who told him about having a blackout episode. Ranveer added, “When I saw her, something wasn't right. She's in front, she's looking at you but she's not all there.” He continued, “One day at breakfast she was sitting across from me and she was just crying and there were just tears. Copious tears flowing down.” Ranveer recalls deciding to call Deepika’s parents for help because he felt ‘completely helpless’.

I don't want to get back to that phase again, says Deepika
The Padmaavat actress stated that she's still on medication and it requires work every day so that she doesn't get back to that phase again. Deepika also mentioned that her own battle with depression was a major reason why she decided to open a foundation and speak about it on a public platform, in order to normalise it so that more people could address their issues, and try to resolve them.
