Kelly Clarkson breaks silence on overcoming depression after divorce with Brandon Blackstock

In her traumatic split from her former manager, entertainment producer and executive Brandon Blackstock, Kelly Clarkson has chosen the high road. The singer-talk show hostess recently opened up on her 'overwhelming' depression post-divorce and how it influenced her tenth album, Chemistry. The couple, who were wedded from 2013 to 2022, had two children together: River Rose, who is nine years old, and Remington, who is seven.

In a conversation with People, Clarkson talked about the process of sorting through the positives and negatives, regaining her authority, and enduring the highs and lows of depression while writing her album. 

The singer said, “I cannot express how appreciative I feel for having that kind of healthy outlet, because the level of depression and things that come with divorce or grieving is extraordinarily hard. You feel alone, and it’s just a blessing to be able to have that outlet for those emotions that are overwhelming. [Releasing the album was] like, I’m taking my power back.” 

Not only has Clarkson been concentrating on her mental health lately, but the former The Voice judge has also been experimenting with her diet and exercise routines. Fans had been noticing changes in Clarkson's appearance, and she finally acknowledged that she had "dropped weight" after consulting with her physician and making some adjustments.

Following their nearly seven-year marriage, Clarkson filed for divorce from Blackstock in June 2020. The former couple fought a long legal battle over spousal support, child custody, and Clarkson's Montana ranch. 

In March 2022, the American Idol winner and Blackstock finalized their divorce with Clarkson getting primary custody of their two children.
