Meet HanuMankind, Kerala Born Musician Rapping His Way To Global Fame After Big Dawgs Release

Rapper HanuMankind’s popularity and meteoric rise cannot be overlooked. The Indian artist has broken several music streaming records and is being talked about on the internet. HanuMankind's current song has become the latest eardrum. Let's know who he is and explore his rise to fame.

Who is HanuMankind?

HanuMankind, also known as Sooraj Cherukat, was born in Malappuram in Kerala. He spent his early years in Houston, Texas, where he attended the Houston Community College. In 2012, he returned to India and enrolled for a course in Coimbatore.

HanuMankind has no relation to the Hindu deity Lord Hanuman. He made his debut in 2019. He began his career at the festival   NH7 Weekender, coinciding with his first release from his debut EP Kalari. It also set the stage of him and cemented his place in the space of upcoming and independent artists.

HanuMankind's dominates music charts

HanuMankind gained widespread recognition worldwide with the release of his music video Big Dawgs, featuring Kalmi, in 2024. The music video directed by Bijoy Shetty, features performances within a classic carnival attraction known as the “wall of death”. 

The music video, the rap went viral within no time. He is inspired from artists like Three 6 Mafia, Project Pat, UGK and DJ Screw. His recent songs have taken the world by storm and even surpassed Kendrick Lamar’s massive song Not Like Us on Spotify’s Top 50-Global charts.

The Kalmi-produced track also charted at number 57 on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts. Anand Mahindra too appreciated the singer and wrote, “Have posted recently about astonishingly talented youth of Indian origin making waves in indigenous American music genres."

He further wrote, “Now here’s Sooraj Cherukat, @Hanumankind!, who’s rapping his way to global recognition. Rap may not be for everyone, but this guy from Kerala & now Bengaluru via Texas is popping eyes across to U.S for his authentic sound & his extraordinary, raw videos. Especially his latest: Big Dawgs, which features the Well of Death or,  as I knew it when I was a kid ..Seems like there’s no form of music young Indian trail breakers can’t cross into….”

The song is produced by Brown Crew Productions. The song was shot in the coastal district of Ponnani and is also known as the Mecca of Kerala.
