Saira Banu and late actor Dilip Kumar got married 57 years ago today. To celebrate their anniversary, the yesteryear actress shared an unseen video from their wedding ceremony on Instagram. She also shared details about her “real Cinderella story”.

Saira Banu shares unseen wedding video 

Saira Banu celebrated her anniversary with Dilip Kumar by posting a rare video from their wedding ceremony. The actress also shared a poignant statement professing her eternal love for Kumar. She revealed how she had wished to marry him since she was a child. Along with them, other well-known actors such as Raj Kapoor, Raaj Kumar and Dev Anand could be seen enjoying the wedding festivities in the video.

Her note read, “Today, the 11th of October, is our wedding anniversary. I am writing specially to express my gratitude to the multitude of well-wishers and dearest friends who have thoughtfully always sent me remembrances of this magical day for both of us, Dilip Sahib and I…when time stood still for us with a million happy sparkling stars in the sky.” 

Saira Banu-Dilip Kumar’s relationship timeline 

Saira Banu has often spoken about how she fell head over heels for the actor after watching his 1952 film Aan and went on to marry the love of her life. He was 44 at the time. Their whirlwind romance began at a housewarming celebration that was scheduled for Saira Banu's birthday on August 23, 1966.

Kumar had travelled to Mumbai from Madras, where he was filming Ram Aur Shyam, to attend the party. Within weeks, Kumar popped the question. They had a quick engagement ceremony in October and got married the same month.
