AP Dhillon Firing: Punjabi rapper and musician AP Dhillon is in the news after it was reported that shots were fired outside his residence in Vancouver, Canada. Amritpal Singh Dhillon or AP Dhillon was born in Gurdaspur, Punjab, pursued his graduation from Amritsar and later relocated to Canada where he pivoted towards music. The news of firing outside Dhillon's residence in Vancouver is reported to have links with the gangsters Goldy Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi, who are accused of the murder of rapper Sidhu Moosewala in May 2022 in Mansa, Punjab.

A video of a masked man firing shots outside AP Dhillon's residence has surfaced on social media. The short clip sees a person dressed in black aiming his gun at what seems like Dhillon's Vancouver residence and firing shots. Another person seemingly sits in the vehicle behind and records the video.
AP Dhillon's rise to fame
The 31-year-old singer became popular after his track Brown Munde (2020) topped the charts emerging as the game-changer for the Canada-based singer. The song gained more popularity on Instagram reels during the Covid pandemic. His other songs include Excuses, With You and Insane to name some. His latest release song is The Brownprint, which released o August 30.
AP has worked with a close-knit group of musicians since the beginning. Gurinder Gill, Shinda Kahlon, and Gminxr have collaborated with him since the start of his musical career in Canada. The breakthrough in his career came after he uploaded his track, Fake, on YouTube. After that came Brown Munde, which catapulted him to global fame. The video also featured slain rapper Sidhu Moosewala.
Dhillon has performed at Coachella in California US and Lollapalooza India in 2023. He has also played shows in Toronto and Edmonton in Canada and San Francisco and Indio in the US. His songs are popular within the Indian diaspora settled abroad.
AP Dhillon's documentary streaming on Prime Video
AP Dhillon: First Of A Kind was also released on Prime Video last year which summoned the journey of the singer to fame. The docu-series features a combination of Dhillon’s personal accounts and his interviews with his close-knit circle of family and friends. It also showcases his association with Run-Up Records (Canadian record label), as their hit songs transformed Dhillon into a global icon.
When AP Dhillon spoke about the threat on Punjabi artists
After the death of rapper Sidhu Moosewala, Dhillon talked about how Punjabi artists have to deal with "negative energy and threats" while building their careers.
“Most people will never know the extent of what you have to deal with as a Punjabi artist behind the scenes on a daily basis. With constant judgement, hate-filled comments, threats and negative energy directed towards people like us, who are just doing what we love to do. I always admired how Sidhu was able to rise above it all. He made it look easy and stayed true to himself. Today I am praying for his family and praying for our community. We need to do better,” Dhillon wrote on social media.
