Emmys Vs Oscars: Television Academy Charges Money To Hand Statuettes, Big Contrast In Winner's Prize

76th Primetime Emmy Awards: On Monday, September 16 (IST), the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles will host the most anticipated awards event of the year. This marks the second Emmy Awards of 2024, following a delay of eight months since the 75th Primetime Emmys due to last year's writers' and actors' strikes. The shows leading the pack of nominations include Shōgun, Only Murders in the Building and The Bear among others. But what do the winners get to take home? Unlike the Oscars, where winners receive a gift bag, Primetime Emmy winners take home just the trophy.

What do Primetime Emmy Award winners get?

According to reports, at the Oscars, every nominee receives a 'Everyone Wins' gift bag, regardless of whether they take home the prize. These luxurious goodie bags are filled with high-end treats, including exotic vacations, designer cosmetics, and more. This year's offerings include three luxurious vacations, a $50,000 Swiss chalet retreat, and a three-night stay at Saint-Barth Paradise in the Caribbean.

On the other side, Primetime Emmy Award winners receive the iconic Emmy statuette, a symbol of recognition for their contributions to television. The trophy is crafted from copper, nickel, silver, and gold, and takes five and a half hours to make.

While Emmy winners don't receive a cash prize or goodie bags, the prestige of winning can significantly boost their earning potential. The number of statuettes awarded can vary by category, and not all team members are guaranteed their own Emmy. However, some winners may need to pay extra if they want to take home a statuette. Each trophy costs around $400 to make, so the Television Academy often charges additional fees for multiple statuettes, particularly for large teams.

When and where to watch the Emmy Awards?

The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards live show will be hosted by the father-son duo of Schitt’s Creek fame- Eugene Levy and Dan Levy. The award show produced by Jesse Collins Entertainment will be broadcast live on ABC on Sunday, September 15 at 8:00-11:00 pm from the Peacock Theatre at LA Live in downtown Los Angeles and will be available on Hulu. 

While in India the event will be streamed on Lionsgate Play on September 16 (Monday) from 5.30 am.
