Margot Robbie has had an amazing 2023. The actress-producer starred in the biggest film of the year, Barbie, and is now the frontrunner for the Best Actress Award at the Oscars 2024. However, it all started with her breakout role in Martin Scorsese’s 2013 film The Wolf of Wall Street. Robbie recently opened up about the process of getting the role of Naomi Lapaglia in Leonardo DiCaprio starrer.
Margot Robbie about her first major role in Hollywood
In an interview with Variety, Robbie spilled the beans about landing her breakout role in her first film in America. The actress talked about the audition process for The Wolf of Wall Street. She said, “They didn’t need a known actor for that role, at that time not being a known actress was the most exciting thing to hear cause everyone in town, around my age, was like omg we can audition for a Scorsese’s film. I did a tape like everyone else, never expected Scorsese himself to see it.”
Robbie said that she never expected to get the role of Naomi in her first film in America. “I just wanted the casting agent to like the tape and remember me for the future things. I never did the tape considering that i will actually get the role. I got a call a while later saying Scorsese watched your tape and wants you to come in person and read with him and Leonardo DiCaprio,” added the Barbie star.
August 2012 saw the release of The Wolf of Wall Street, which had a $100 million budget. Margot Robbie, who is only 22 years old and has only three film credits to her name, must have felt a little intimidated working with movie heavyweights like Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese. Being a relative newcomer to the big screen, the actress has openly expressed her feelings of anxiety and self-doubt during production.
