Cruella 2: Emma Stone drops an update on her upcoming comedy-drama, says it's a work in progress

With the popularity of Cruella, the live-action prequel to the beloved Disney animated picture 101 Dalmatians, there has been much discussion about a possible sequel. Now, Emma Stone has officially confirmed the second part of the movie in a recent interview. The actress revealed Cruella 2 is a work in progress. 

Emma Stone discusses status of Cruella 2

In a conversation with Variety, Stone confirmed that Cruella 2 is likely to begin shooting soon. The La La Land star expressed her hope that the production will start "sooner rather than later," implying that the script for the anticipated sequel is still "a work in progress." Stone hinted that she was eager to take on the role again, even though she was unable to provide a more specific timeframe.

Previously, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, who portrayed Anita in Cruella, also weighed in on the ongoing discussion about the potential sequel of the film and emphasised that she would love to reprise her role. The actress said, “I would love to return. For me, I got to work on a really great film with incredible costumes, incredible set design, and really lovely actors. And that's kind of all you can hope for. I kind of like, I won, so yeah. Who would not want to come back for more of that?"

What is Cruella about? 

On May 28, 2021, Craig Gillespie's film Cruella made its theatrical and Disney+ debuts. The film, which stars Stone in the lead role, explores Cruella de Vil's rise to fame as a fashion designer in 1970s London and provides an origin story for the main antagonist of the beloved 1961 Disney animated movie One Hundred and One Dalmatians

Cruella brought in $233.5 million at the global box office, and Samba TV reports that it also brought in $21 million from Disney+ Premier Access rentals. Stone signed on to reprise her role in August 2021, and a sequel was first reported to be in development in June 2021.
