Gwyneth Paltrow was among the many stars who paid tribute to Matthew Perry on his passing on October 29. The actress took to her social media account to pen a long note along with a young photo of the FRIENDS star. Gwyneth and Matthew dated briefly in 1994.

On October 29, as the news of Matthew Perry surfaced, several celebrities from all across the globe took to their social media account to share a note for the departed. Gwyneth Paltrow was also one of the stars. She took to her Instagram account to recall her first meeting with the actor and how he was nervous after shooting for the pilot episode of FRIENDS. She wrote, "I met Matthew Perry in 1993 at the Williamstown Theater Festival in Massachusetts. We were both there for most of the summer doing plays. He was so funny and so sweet and so much fun to be with. We drove out to swim in creeks, had beers in the local college bar, kissed in a field of long grass. It was a magical summer. He had shot the pilot of Friends but it had not aired yet.”

She continued her post by recalling how Perry was nervous about whether FRIENDS would do well or not. She also noted that she maintained a cordial relation with the actor until they drifted apart. She recounted, “He was nervous, hoping his big break was just around the corner. It was. We stayed friends for a while until we drifted apart, but I was always happy to see him when I did. I am super sad today, as so many of us are. I hope Matthew is at peace at long last. I really do.”

Over hundreds of Friends fans braved the rains in Manhattan to honour actor Mathew Perry, who played Chandler Bing in the sitcom, by gathering outside the iconic show’s apartments. According to Variety, people of all ages and backgrounds gathered on Sunday by the Friends building in New York’s West Village to pay their respects to Perry and pose for pictures outside of the show’s iconic apartment. 

Though he appeared in other shows and movies like Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and The Whole Nine Yards, Perry was synonymous with the lovably sarcastic Chandler Bing, playing the character for a decade on Friends. Perry passed away at the age of 54 years old on Saturday, October 28 morning, local time.
