Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, Lacey Chabert reprise Mean Girl roles, recreate iconic scene | Watch

Cult classic 2004 teen comedy Mean Girls is making a resurgence on the pop culture scene. Recently, pictures of the primary cast mid-shoot, dressed as their characters, made their way onto the internet. It is now clear for what purpose. The primary cast, sans Rachel McAdam who essayed the role of Regina George, has banded together once more for a new advertisement directly drawing inspiration from the premise of the film.

Mean Girls cast bands together for a new advertisement

A new advertisement, created for Walmart, sees a majority of the Mean Girls primary cast - namely, Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert - reprise their roles of Cady Heron, Karen Smith and Gretchen Wieners. The almost two-minute long commercial spiritually recreates many of film's key scenes.

While Lohan's Cady is now the school counselor, Chabert's Gretchen has taken on the persona of Regina George's uber cool mother. Seyfried's Karen, is just the same. From the Jingle Bell Rock performance, the gym PSA as well as to the "get in loser we're going shopping!" scene, the advertisement is a cheery refresher of the Mean Girls era, with Gretchen still trying to make 'fetch' happen. What's more, Daniel Fransenze also comes in for a brief cameo, reprising his role of Damian in his iconic pink shirt. For reasons unknown, Rachel McAdam's Regina George - Mean Girls queen bee leading the pack, was missing from the recreation.

A Mean Girls musical comedy is gearing up for theatrical release

Directed by Arturo Perez Jr. and Samantha Jayne with a screenplay by Tina Fey - who essayed the role of Ms. Norbury in the original -  the Mean Girls musical comedy is gearing up for a theatrical release, come January 12 next year. 

While a new cast will be leading the film, Tina Fey will be reprising her role with Jenna Fischer notably playing Cady Heron's mother.
