Remembering Harry Potter stars who passed away over the years

Maggie Smith 

Maggie Smith, who is popularly known for her role as Professor Minerva McGonagall in Harry Potter, has died at 89. The news was confirmed by her sons Chris Larkin and Toby Stephens in a statement.

Alan Rickman

Alan Rickman played the role of Professor Severus Snape in all eight Harry Potter films. He passed away in January 2016 after battling with pancreatic cancer for a long time.

Robbie Coltrane

Robbie Coltrane played the role of Rubues Hagrid, the gamekeeper and keeper of keys at Hogwarts. He passed away in October 2022 due to the complications from heart disease.

Richard Harris

Richard Harris portrayed Albus Dumbledore in the first two films. He passed away in October 2002 due to Hodgkin's Disease, and the role of Dumbledore was taken over by Michael Gambon.

Michael Gambon

Michael Gambon  was known to many for his portrayal of Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore in six of the eight Harry Potter films. He was cast as the much-loved Dumbledore after the death of his predecessor, Richard Harris, in 2002. He passed away in September 2023, from complications caused by pneumonia.

Richard Griffiths

Richard Griffiths who played Harry's uncle, Vernon Dursley. He passed away in March 2013 due to complications post-heart surgery.

Helen McCrory

Helen McCrory portrayed the role of played Narcissa Malfoy, Draco's mother. 

She passed away in April 2021 after battling cancer for a long time.
