The revival film of the classic teen comedy Mean Girls will be making its theatrical debut on January 12, next year. Ahead of its release, the makers unveiled the trailer of the movie on Wednesday. It featured Reneé Rapp as the iconic Regina George, while Angourie Rice was seen as Cady Heron. 

Mean Girls with a Gen Z spin on the classic comedy

The first trailer of Mean Girls begins with the remark, "This is not your mother's Mean Girls," and is set to Olivia Rodrigo's song "Get Him Back!" The two minutes and five seconds long trailer, features Angourie's reserved Cady, who is accepted into the well-known female group The Plastics, which is led by Regina (Reneé Rapp). 

The video demonstrates how Regina gives Cady a makeover but is envious when the latter develops feelings for her ex-boyfriend. Cady acting awkwardly toward her crush Aaron Samuels, the disastrous "Jingle Bell Rock" performance at the Winter Talent Show, and Regina's iconic "Get in, loser" are among the first things we see about the movie. 

The team of Mean Girls 

Joining Tina Fey and Tim Meadows, who starred in the original film, are Jenna Fischer, Busy Philipps, Avantika, Mahi Alam, Bebe Wood, Ashley Park, Connor Ratliff, and Jon Hamm in this version.

Screenwriter and producer Fey, who penned the music for the stage production as well as the 2004 film, is back for this adaptation. Directed by Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez, Mean Girls will hit the theatres on January 12, 2024.
