Top Gun star Meg Ryan has voiced her opinion in the ongoing discussion regarding nepotism in Hollywood by standing up for her son Jack Quaid. Her comment came after The Boys actor was criticized for having a condescending attitude toward his ancestry. Meg expressed her displeasure at Jack being treated like a ‘nepo baby’. which undermines his skill, work ethic, and awareness of privilege.

In a conversation with Glamour, Meg addressed the debate around nepotism. Jack is one of many young celebrities whose fame has been questioned in light of recent discussions about nepo babies, which is short for ‘nepotism’. A nepo baby is a famous person's offspring who has also become well-known, some critics believe this is because of their parents' fame rather than their abilities.
Weighing on the subject, Meg said, “Jack is really talented. He’s more of a natural than I’ll ever be. That nepo stuff is so dismissive of his work ethic, his gifts, and how sensitive he is to the idea of his privilege.”

Meg and her 69-year-old ex-husband Dennis Quaid are parents to Jack Quaid. From 1991 to 2000, the couple spent nine years as husband and wife, before getting divorced in 2001. Daisy True Ryan, Meg's daughter, was later adopted in 2006.

Jack Quaid made his acting debut with the 2012 film The Hunger Games as Marvel. The actor currently plays Hughie Campbell in the Prime Video series The Boys, in the 2023 film Oppenheimer, he portrayed the role of physicist Richard Feynman.
