Nicole Kidman walked the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival in an avant-garde couture by Daniel Roseberry for Schiaparelli but little did she know that the day will turn her life upside down. The day marked two big moments in her life - losing her mother and the Volpi Cup for Best Actress for Babygirl.

However, she had to cut short her appearance and leave the film festival abruptly when she received the news of her mother Janelle Ann Kidman. Her Best Actress award was accepted by Babygirl director Halina Reijn and in her statement she dedicated it to her late mother.

My heart is broken: Nicole Kidman

Before leaving, Nicole penned a winning speech in which she opened up about her mother and how she shaped her, guided her and made her. "I'm in shock and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her," director Halina Reijn read aloud during the award acceptance moment. "She shaped me, she guided me, and she made me. I am beyond grateful that I get to say her name to all of you through Halina," the actress added.

In her statement, she informed the audience that she had made it to Venice, but was informed shortly after that her "beautiful, brave mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, had just passed." she concluded her statement by saying, “The collision of life and art is heartbreaking, and my heart is broken.”

After reading her statement, Reijn concluded by saying, "We love you, Nicole."

Nicole Kidman requests for privacy

Meanwhile, on the work front, Babygirl premiered at the 2024 Venice Film Festival on August 30 and is set to be featured at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, before dazzling on the big screens on December 25.
