Oscars 2024: Margot Robbie to Leonardo DiCaprio, frontrunners for Best Actor, Best Actress category

As cinema-goers await the 96th Academy Awards that will take place in March later this year, the wait for the final list of nominations becomes all the nerve-wracking. However, since the announcement of winners at a few other major awards ceremonies this season, there have been favourites set for the top categories at the Oscars this year. 

The best actor category have a few obvious tentpole contenders, along with a handful of surprising new talents making to to the A-list of favourites. 

Margot Robbie, Leonardo DiCaprio among top favourites

While the leading acting nominations arrive for veterans and popular actors like Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie, Lily Gladstone from Killers Of The Flower Moon has emerged as one of the most acclaimed performances of the year. Cilian Murphy, the protagonist of Christopher Nolan's historical drama Oppenheimer, is undoubtedly one of the leading contenders for the best actor nomination.

Past Lives' Greta Lee among top contenders for best actress

Emma Stone for Poor Things is another strong contender for a nomination. Bradley Cooper's performance as the neurotic genius protagonist of Maestro is one of the leading favourites for Best Actor category. 

Meanwhile, the leading actress of Past Lives Greta Lee too is one of the most favourite contenders for the best actress nomination.

The final list of nominations for the 96th Academy Awards will be announced on January 23. The Academy Awards ceremony will be held on March 11, at 4.30am IST.
