Selena Gomez Reveals She Can't Conceive Due To 'Health Issues', Is Open To Surrogacy And Adoption

Hollywood News: Selena Gomez was diagnosed with lupus during her teenage years, which eventually has affected her body significantly. In a recent interview, the People You Know singer opened up about her past health struggles including her battle with lupus and also about wanting a family.

In the October issue of Vanity Fair, Selena Gomez talked about her struggle with health before and after being diagnosed lupus. She also talked about expanding her future family, with a heartbreaking revelation.

She said, “I haven’t ever said this, but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children. I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while."

But the Calm Down singer also spoke about the alternative ways to become a mother. “It’s not necessarily the way I envisioned it. I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone. [But] I’m in a much better place with that.”

She further said, “I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me. It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I’m one of those people. I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”

Selena also noted that she’s not pressuring her boyfriend Benny Blanco to have kids yet. “We always make sure we’re protecting what we have, but there’s no rules. I want him to always be himself. I always want to be myself."

For the unversed, the actress and singer was diagnosed with lupus in 2013. She got a kidney transplant in 2017 with the help of her friend and actress Francia Raise. Gomez was also diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2018.
