'Superman' David Corenswet beefs up for superhero role as he gears up for James Gunn's film

The DC reboot of Superman is all set to commence filming come March, next year. In preparation for the same, the new face for Superman, David Corenswet, is hitting the gum hard to look the part. The actor's trainer recently shared a glimpse of the "legacy" in the making.

David Corenswet is in the midst of a massive physical transformation

David Corenswet is being trained by Paolo Mascitti. Mascitti took to his Instagram handle to share a glimpse of the actor in the midst of another hard-hitting training session at the gym. The caption to the post simply read, "THE LEGACY", a smart reference to the title of the film Corenswet will be headlining, namely titled - Superman: Legacy.

The casting process for the film was a tedious one, with David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnan emerging victorious. Also in consideration for the roles of Clark Kent were Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney. However, it was allegedly Corenswet's chemistry with Lois Lane pick Rachel Brosnan during the screen test which won the studios over.

What is Superman: Legacy about?

Superman: Legacy will see James Gunn take the superhero back to his roots, albeit in a more present manner. Instead of delving into an origin story for Superman, Gunn's film will showcase the superhero in his 30s as he attempts to find a common ground between his Kryptonian heritage and his humanity.

As per DC studios, Superman will be "the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old fashioned." The film is a complete departure from Henry Cavill's DC Snyderverse legacy.  The script for the film was completed by Gunn prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike. The film will also star newcomer María Gabriela de Faríachas as The Engineer.
