Will Margot Robbie reprise her role of Harley Quinn? Actress responds

Many questions have been answered regarding the new DC era, ever since James Gunn took over the creative vision of the studio. However, one question that remains is if Margot Robbie will play Harley Quinn in the DCU in their upcoming movies. The Barbie actress offered her opinions on the matter.

Margot Robbie on playing Harley Quinn again

In a conversation with Variety, Robbie discussed the future of the Harley Quinn character in movies. Given how the DCEU concluded and Lady Gaga's portrayal of a different Harley in the Joker sequel, she was asked if there was any chance she would return to the role. Robbie, for her part, didn't explicitly say that she would never play it again but she stated that she had always wanted to see new actresses play Harley Quinn. 

The actress said, “I always wanted Harley to be a character that would get passed on to other actresses to play, the way there are so many iconic male characters. That was always the dream for her. Harley’s so fun and can go in so many different directions. You put her in someone else’s hands, and it’s like, 'What are they going to do with her?' The options are endless."

Future of Harley Quinn

Robbie's Harley Quinn has appeared on screen three times so far including Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, and The Suicide Squad. James Gunn has hinted on social media that he may bring back the character again in the future, however, it's unclear if this will involve Robbie in the new DCU. Robbie's success in other endeavors, like "Barbie," may influence her choices in the future.

In the meantime, 2024 will see the big-screen debut of a new Harley. In the Joker sequel Joker: Folie à Deux, which sees Joaquin Phoenix as the lead character, Lady Gaga will play the role of Harley Quinn. Exactly five years after the first film's release, on October 4, 2024, that film will be released in theaters.
