Indian 2 became one of the biggest flops of Kamal Hassan’s career as it failed drastically at the box office. Indian 2 was released on July 12. It is the sequel of 1996’s blockbuster Tamil movie Indian, which featured a retired freedom fighter battling corruption in India. Unfortunately, the much-awaited sequel didn’t do well in the theatres and received an underwhelming response. Earlier it was reported that the movie would be a premature OTT release, but now, it seems that the arrival will take some time.
Indian 2 overall collection
As per the recent update, Indian 2 has earned just ₹81 crore nett at the Indian box office and has grossed ₹150 crore worldwide. Combining both Indian and overseas gross, the worldwide box office collection stands at ₹231 crore.
Streaming giant back down from OTT deal?
Due to the film's poor performance, a streaming giant is reportedly unwilling to honour the original OTT rights deal with the makers.
According to Track Tollywood, the platform acquired the streaming rights for Indian 2 for over ₹120 crore and paid the amount before the theatrical release. Given the film's failure, the streaming platform now seeks a significant refund and is not agreeing to the original ₹120 crore+ deal.
