Rakshit Shetty has announced that his Kannada web series Ekam will be released on his own platform, as no OTT platforms have shown interest in it.
National Film Award-winning director, actor, and producer Rakshit Shetty has announced that his Kannada web series Ekam will be released on his own platform, as no OTT platforms have shown interest in it. He made this announcement on June 17 via X (formerly Twitter), explaining his decision in a detailed note.
Rakshit Shetty to release his film on his own platform
In his message, Rakshit Shetty stated, "We hit familiar roadblocks every time. However, I think the audience deserves a chance and the right to decide the worth of any content." He reflected on the project's journey, starting from its inception in early 2020, through the challenges brought by the pandemic, and up to the completion of the final cut in October 2021. Despite exploring various avenues over the past few years, he encountered repeated obstacles in securing a platform for the series.
Rakshit emphasised the importance of letting the audience judge the content for themselves, stating, "You might love it. You might hate it. But I guarantee that you cannot dismiss it. It's a one-of-a-kind attempt that needs to be acknowledged and applauded. I hope you enjoy it as much as we loved making it."
Rakshit Shetty's journey
Rakshit Shetty has seen significant success recently, with the pan-India hit 777 Charlie in 2022, and the Kannada blockbusters Sapta Saagaradaache Ello, Side A and Sapta Saagaradaache Ello, Side B in 2023. Since his debut in 2010, he has made a substantial impact on the industry.
Sapta Saagaradaache Ello director Hemanth Rao commented on the situation, suggesting that the Kannada film industry needs to address the issue of finding platforms for its content, as it is not as large as its Tamil or Telugu counterparts.
