Korean actress Jung Joo Yeon gets divorce after six months of marriage

Twenty famed Jung Joo Yeon has parted with her non-celebrity husband, as announced by her agency NEVER DIE on Saturday. The couple got married earlier this year and decided to get a divorce only after six months of marriage. They have been living separate lives since October.

The rumours of Jung Joo Yeon’s divorce surfaced online earlier this week. The artist’s agency confirmed the news to South Korean media with an official statement that read, “It’s true that last month, Jung Joo Yeon and her husband mutually agreed to end their marriage.” 

The couple, who tied the knot back in March this year, had not yet formally registered their marriage, according to reports. It further stated that, as the marriage was not registered in accordance with South Korean legislation, they are not required to formally file for divorce.

Other short-lived celebrity marriage 

But, Jung Joo Yeon is not the first South Korean celebrity who has drawn criticism for her private split. The decision to dissolve Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo's marriage in 2019 caused the one of the biggest divorce scandals in Asia. After Descendants of the Sun became a huge hit, the pair from the show had become well-known all over the world. In October 2017, they confirmed their relationship rumors and exchanged vows. 

Dreams, however, were dashed when the couple announced their divorce shortly after one and a half years of marriage, igniting rumors and leaving admirers to speculate as to what happened between the beautiful pair to drive them to reach this tragic conclusion.

More than the divorce, rumors of a nasty falling out between the two were sparked by Joong Ki's one-sided separation declaration. Reports from South Korean media outlets state that the Vincenzo star filed for divorce without first contacting Song Hye Kyo, and that she only learned of this through the media.
