Sweet Home 2 actor Song Kang reveals how he prepares for his roles: I lose my appetite

Three years after the riveting events of Sweet Home, the residents of the dilapidated Green Home Apartments block are back in the highly anticipated sequel, aptly named Sweet Home 2. The first season garnered immense success, owing to its dystopian landscape, and impressive performances by the star cast, including Song Kang, Go Min Si, Park Gyu Young, Lee Do Hyun, and Lee Jin Uk. recently, the cast spoke about the filming of season 2 and the challenges they faced. 

Lee Jin Uk, Song Kang open up about working in Sweet Home 2

In an interview with New Music Taste, Lee Jin Uk shed light on the complexity of his character and the risky, dangerous thoughts that drive him to believe that the world's owners don't have to be humans but could be Neo-humans. He reflected on his role and delved into the preparation required to empathise with his character's beliefs. When asked how he would react in a real-life monster apocalypse, he humorously responds with a practical approach - "finding a safe place".

Song Kang, who acknowledges the pivotal role Sweet Home played in his acting career, expressed both gratitude and nervousness about meeting the expectations that follow such success. He said, "About two weeks before a script reading, I lose my appetite. As I have doubts about myself if I can deliver, I work harder and spend more time on prep work, like reading the script more heavily."

What is Sweet Home 2 about?

Sweet Home 2 takes the narrative to new heights, with a storyline that is far more spread out than its predecessor. The sequel opens with Song Kang's character, Hyun Su, in custody and on his way to an army base for experimentation. The plot introduces unexpected twists, such as the resurrection of Sang-wook (Lee Jin Uk), now controlled by a malicious monster with the ability to manipulate his powers.

Season 2 has received mixed responses in comparison to its predecessor. However, the makers have announced an exciting development – Sweet Home will be back for a third season in 2024, featuring a time jump.
