Several K-pop idols including TXT Soobin, Seventeen Woozi, and NCT Taeyong came under fire for enjoying pedophilic content. The singers have shared their fondness for problematic content on social media in recent days. Some of them even suggested the anime Made in Abyss to their fans, which has pedophilic and gory themes.
Why is Made in Abyss problematic?
The 12-volume Japanese manga series Made in Abyss was written and illustrated by Akihito Tsukushi. It has been adapted into an anime series consisting of two parts. It was praised for its powerful storyline and eye-catching graphics, yet other viewers thought it unsettling.
The narrative, which pits child protagonists against frightening circumstances with hints of pedophilia in a spooky and terrifying tale, has drawn a range of responses and contributed to both praise and criticism.
K-pop idols receive backlash
The main reason for the criticism directed at TXT's Soobin is that people have misconstrued his remarks as support for the anime. The misinterpretation arises from the idea that he suggested the anime, which is unsettling and is often thought to be spooky by many viewers.

Similarly, due to the appearance of the 11th volume of the manga in one of NCT 127's Taeyong's Instagram stories, it has been speculated that the K-pop idol is a manga enthusiast. Many admirers thought he had been betrayed and were shocked that he was watching such graphic material.
In the meantime, during their Weverse live and fan calls, Woozi of SEVENTEEN, Mingi of ATEEZ, DEX, and Yongha of WEi have all previously remarked how much they like the anime. When fans asked DEX and Woozi to recommend an anime, they enthusiastically suggested it.

Although some fans are undoubtedly against the anime, others counter that if it is improper and disrespectful, then the entire Harry Potter fandom—which has been accused of racism—should also be subject to similar criticism. They consider the criticism idols are facing to be intolerable.
