The psychological thriller Adrishya Jalakangal, starring Tovino Thomas, is all set to make its way to the digital platform following its theatrical success. The film, revolving around a young man's unsettling experiences after leaving a mental asylum, is slated for release on Netflix on December 8, 2023. Directed by Dr. Biju, the movie had its premiere at the 27th Tallinn Black Nights International Film Festival (TBNIFF).

Adrishya Jalakangal's plot

Adrishya Jalakangal follows the journey of a young man who returns to his former residence after leaving a mental institution. Taking up a part-time job as a night watchman at a morgue, he encounters inexplicable occurrences, leading to a chilling turn of events that unravel the deeper layers of the narrative.

Apart from Tovino Thomas in the lead role, the film features Nimisha Sajayan and Indrans in pivotal roles, adding depth and intrigue to the storyline.

The movie is produced by Radhika Lau's Ellanar Films, Naveen Yerneni, Y Ravi Shankar's Mythri Movie Makers, and Tovino Thomas' Tovino Thomas Productions.

Tovino Thomas reflects on 2018's success

Tovino Thomas was last featured in 2018, a film currently available for streaming on SonyLiv. Speaking at an event, the actor expressed his joy at the overwhelming positive response received by the movie.

"To get such overwhelmingly positive reviews for a film we shot mostly soaked in water is an amazing feeling," said Thomas. He further added, "I can’t think of a single film that garnered 100% positive reviews on social media before. Maybe because this is a film every Malayalee feels close to his/her heart. We feel an emotional attachment to the film."

Recalling the emotional connection to the script, Thomas shared, "I remember crying when I read the script. But I didn’t tell anyone." He also mentioned the dedication of the team, especially Jude, emphasizing the commitment to the project even in challenging conditions.

2018, where Tovino Thomas played a significant role, is India's official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 96th Academy Awards.
