Did the audience give a thumbs-up to Bougainvillea?

It seems like the audience is divided over Bougainvillea. A section of viewers like how the screenplay has been brought alive on the screen, while others claim that it is a "boring" slow-burn drama with nothing to keep them hooked to their seats. Some watchers even mentioned how the film is a departure from Amal Neerad's otherwise stylish films like Mammootty's Bheeshma Parvam and Fahadh Faasil's Varathan and focuses more on the substance of the story.

Reacting to the film, a social media user wrote, "Bougainvillea is a terrific film by Amal Neerad. A different one from the director who is known for stylish filmmaking. A psycho-thriller which has a solid plot and power-packed performances by Kunchako Boban, Jyothirmayi and Fahadh Faasil #FahadhFaasil (sic)." Another one commented, "It is a solid, quiet, subtle, beatifully made drama that turns into a detective story -- though the last part is too sensational."

What is the storyline of Bougainvillea?

The film revolves around a couple, Royce (Kunchacko Boban) and Reethu (Jyothirmayi), who meet with a nasty accident. The after-effect of the accident: Reethu suffers from Anterograde and Retrograde amnesia. Enter David Koshy (Fahadh Faasil) who visits Reethu's home and asks her about the whereabouts of a missing girl. His interrogation hits a roadblock because of Reethu's memory. What follows next forms the crux of the story.

Sharaf U Dheen, Veena Nandakumar and Srinda play supporting roles in the movie.
