The makers of Mohanlal starrer Malaikottai Vaaliban unveiled the film's teaser on Wednesday, December 7. Helmed by Lijo Jose, the Malayalam-language drama, will be dubbed in four regional languages - Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. Speaking about the idea behind billing Malaikottai Vaaliban as a pan-India movie, the makers said that it is an undeniably universal film which is why they've decided to promote it in multiple languages.

Why is Malaikottai Vaaliban releasing in five regional languages?

While most films these days are being dubbed and released in multiple languages aiming to get the widest possible reach, the makers of Malaikottai Vaaliban have issued a statement where one of the producers shared that they decided to bill  Malaikottai Vaaliban as a pan-India movie because of its "undeniable universality".

“Lijo Jose Pellissery has not only created a vast canvas but assembled a sterling ensemble cast headlined by the legendary Mohanlal. This is one of our most significant ventures in Malayalam cinema as its theme, grandeur and emotional resonance have undeniable universality. This is why the film will be dubbed and released simultaneously in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi," the statement read.

A look at Malaikottai Vaaliban teaser

The recently released teaser of the film hints at Mohanlal playing the role of a magician or an illusionist. The clip begins with a monologue of Mohanlal, "What you have seen is the truth. What you have not seen is a lie. What I will show you now is the truth.” Towards the end, the superstar swings his scarf just like his character poster unveiled earlier.

The film marks the first collaboration between acclaimed director Lijo Jose Pellissery and Mohanlal. The film is scripted by P S Rafeeque, who has earlier worked with Lijo in movies like Nayakan and Amen. Madhu Neelakandan handles the cinematography while the music of the film is by Prashanth Pillai. Malaikottai Vaaliban will hit the big screen on January 25, 2024.
