Mammootty's film Yatra that released in 2019 received positive responses from the audiences. After four years, the makers of the film are back with a sequel. Recently, Mammootty took to his social media handle X, formerly Twitter, to share the first-look poster of his film Yatra 2, featuring him and Jiiva.

Mammootty played the role of late CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy in the first installment of Yartra. In the sequel, Jiiva will portray the role of his son, YS Jagan. Recently, Mammootty took to X to share the first-look poster of the sequel to the film and wrote, "Presenting the first look of #Yatra2. Yatra 2 chronicles the life of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan. The film will highlight his incredible political journey, including his decisive victory in the 2019 elections. Fans can mark their calendars for the theatrical release on February 8, 2024, according to the poster. V Celluloid and the Three Autumn Leaves banner collaborated on the biopic. Santhosh Narayanan is in charge of the soundtrack, while Madhie is in charge of the cinematography in Yatra 2. Mammootty is currently basking in the success of his latest release Kannur Squad. Meanwhile, Jiiva was last featured in the rom-com film titled Varalaru Mukkiyam helmed by Santosh Rajan.
