Mammootty starrer Christopher director B Unnikrishnan breaks silence on film's box office failure

Mammootty has had a packed year - not unconventional for the actor. He has seen through the release of films Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, Christopher and Kannur Squad with the Jyothika starrer Kaathal - The Core now up for a release. Christopher however, has been a sore spot in Mammootty's filmography owing to its evident box office failure. The film's director, B Unnikrishnan, has now opened up about the same.

B Unnikrishnan opens up about Christopher's box office failure

In a candid chat with The Cue Channel, Director B Unnikrishnan attempted to articulate the box office failure of the Mammootty led Christopher. There has been immense chatter online about the film allegedly failing to fetch numbers at the box office due to the barrage of negative reviews that came for Christopher, soon after the film hit theatres. Unnikrishnan however, does not entirely buy into that perspective.

The director shared how there have been umpteen examples of films that have thrived at the box office despite critically negative reviews. While he does acknowledge that the negative press definitely deterred many from going to the theatres, he does not entirely peg Christopher's failure on the same. Additionally, Unnikrishnan also commented on the judiciary's ongoing assessment over review bombing and how it had potential to impact a film's outcome in the future.

What is next for B Unnikrishnan?

Christopher was B Unnikrishnan's second collaboration with writer Udayakrishna. Interestingly, the script for Christopher is considered one of the better ones churned out by Udayakrishna in comparison to others like those for Aaraattu and Monster. Next for B Unnikrishnan is a currently untitled project with Bheeshma Parvam writer Devadath Shaji. Mammootty on the other hand will be next seen in Kaathal - The Core, which will release in theatres on November 23.
