#Metoo movement is getting murkier in the Malayalam film industry as more artists are coming forward and opening up about sexual misconduct incidents. Amid this, actress Suparna Anand has called out Mollywood superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal over their silence after the findings of the Hema Committee report.

For the unversed, Mohanlal resigned as President of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) on August 27. Along with him, the entire commission stepped down, leading to its dissolution. This came after several members of the committee were accused of sexual misconduct.

Suparna Anand criticises Mukesh M, Mohanlal and Mammootty

The actress, who made her comeback in Mollywood after a 27-long hiatus, is shocked to see stalwarts such as Mohanlal and Mammootty not reacting to the ongoing MeToo movement in the Malayalam industry, reported by Onmanorama. She also criticised actor-politician Mukesh for not stepping down from his post of MLA despite being booked in a sexual assault case by Minu Muneer.

Mukesh has been booked under IPC 376 (rape) following a female actor's allegation that he sexually assaulted her years ago, police said on Thursday.

Suparna Anand reveals why she quit acting

In the same conversation she shared that owing to the pressure within the industry, she quit acting four years after her debut. "It is irrelevant to question why people decide to respond after a period of 34 years. I worked in the Malayalam film industry only for four years. But I had to leave because of the pressures within the film industry. Casting couch has been there since time immemorial," she said.

The actress made her debut with the 1982 movie Vaishali and was widely praised for her performance. She is also known for her performance as Bhama in Njan Gandharvan, written and directed by P. Padmarajan. Apart from Malayalam, she has also starred in several Hindi movies, including Nagin Aur Suhagin, Chorni and Akarshan.  The actress quit acting in 1997 after starring in Bollywood movie Aastha: In the Prison of Spring.
