Premalu Sequel Confirmed, Makers Reveal New Poster With Release Date - See Details

On April 19, the makers of Premalu took to their official social media handles to announce a sequel to the film along with a new poster.

After the success of the Malayalam film Premalu in both its original language and Telugu, the makers of the film on April 19 announced the sequel to the film. Premalu, originally released on February 9, 2024, earned over ₹130 crores worldwide. It is currently streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar in various languages including Hindi.

Makers announce Premalu 2

On April 19, the official Instagram page of Bhavan Studios shared a new poster announcing Premalu 2. They captioned the post: "The Biggest RomCom blockbuster ever in Malayalam Cinema will be back in 2025! Let’s Premalu 2."  

Premalu ends with Mamitha Baiju's character Reenu Roy accepting Naslen Gafoor's character Sachin's love just before he departs for the UK. Directed by Girish AD, Premalu was highly appreciated by critics and audiences alike for showing a coming-of-age romantic comedy. Premalu, produced by Fahadh Faasil, marked the second collaboration between the film's lead stars Naslen Gafoor and Mamitha Baiju and director Girish after Super Sharanya. The filmmaker is currently busy with his next titled I am Kadhalan. The film is already on the floors.

Premalu became a blockbuster

The coming-of-age film, reportedly made on a budget of ₹3 crore, has minted ₹131.18 cores worldwide, as per Sacnilk. Fahadh Faasil, who backed Premalu, addressed his prowess as a producer in an interview with Onmanorama. He said, "I believe a good producer has an eye for spotting good stories. They are the ones who ensure good stories. They are the ones who ensure good stories are told and I can do that in my capacity as a producer."

He also detailed why he feels he does not make that good of an actor. His limitations in comedy and his allegedly cranky behaviour on set made for the foremost reasons. He said, "As an actor, I have limitations. I love doing comedy, but I know I need to put in more effort for the kind of comedy I do. Sometimes I am cranky on the sets and have tantrums as an actor. I also insist on retakes for certain scenes we shot probably a week ago. This is part of my process as an actor..."
