It's Controversial/ Tovino Thomas starre Nadikar Thilakam to change its title? Sivaji Ganesan fans write to AMMA

Tovino Thomas finds himself in an exciting time in his career. Not only is the actor involved with multiple projects in various stages of development, but he may just be entering Oscars season very soon, courtesy his Malayalam film 2018: Everyone is a Hero, sent as India's official entry to the Academy Awards this year. However, one of the actor's lined up films, Nadikar Thilakam, appears to be finding itself in the midst of controversy.

Nadikar Thilakam to have a title change?

Tovino Thomas is currently in the midst of filming Nadikar Thilakam. The actor will be essaying the role of David Padikkal. Several glimpses of the actor - who is sporting an unkempt rockstar aesthetic - have been periodically released by the makers to gain favour with the audience. However, an entirely separate set of fans - those of late actor and producer Sivaji Ganesan, have taken offence to the title of the film. 

The point being made by the late actor's fandom is that if the film is not about Sivaji Ganesan, it must not carry the name Nadikar Thilakam. Nadigarthilagam Sivaji Samooganala Perava, a dedicated Sivaji Ganesan fan association, has written to the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes, or AMMA, asking for a title change. Fan association president, K Chandrasekaran said, "f you produce a movie in the name of Nadigar Thilagam, it is obvious that it a biography film on Sivaji Ganeshan. That is why we objected to that name. I directly gave it to South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce..."

What is Nadikar Thilakam about?

Nadikar Thilakam is in no way a biopic on the late Sivaji Ganesan. Reportedly made on a budget of ₹40 crores, Nadikar Thilakam showcases the story of superstar David Padikkal in context of the trials and tribulations he faces in his professional endeavours and personal life amid his rise.
