Tovino Thomas’ latest Malayalam movie Nadikar, directed by Jean Paul Lal and featuring Bhavana and Soubin Shahir in key roles, is set for its OTT release. Initially reported to have its digital rights acquired by Netflix, the film's streaming release has been fast-tracked and will now be available from June 21 in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.
Nadikar marks the second collaboration between Tovino and the producers of Pushpa, Mythri Movie Makers, following Dr Biju Adrishya Jalakangal, which is also available on Netflix. Despite not making a significant impact at the box office, the makers are optimistic that the film will receive positive feedback from audiences on the streaming platform.
The movie, which includes cameo appearances by Ranjith, Suresh Krishna, and Anoop Menon, centers on a superstar named David Padikkal. His rapid rise to fame comes with numerous challenges. After a series of flops, David is encouraged by his entourage to take acting lessons from a theatre coach, but his ego might hinder his progress.
Tovino’s portrayal of David was well-received by critics and audiences, although the script received mixed reviews. The film’s climax, highlighting the actor's internal struggles and the character he plays, was particularly praised for its meta approach, made memorable by Tovino’s performance.
Rumors suggest that Tovino is set to collaborate with KGF and Kantara producers Hombale Films on a project directed by Muhsin Parari. He also announced his next film, Avaran, directed by Shilpa Alexander and written by Benny P Nayarambalam. Additionally, Tovino will reprise his role as Jatin Das in the highly anticipated sequel L2: Empuraan, part of the Lucifer franchise.
