GOAT's Muted Hindi Collections Elicit An Absurd Comment From Venkat Prabhu
Thalapathy Vijay's GOAT was released in five languages including Hindi but it has excelled only in Tamil, accounting for more than half of the total collection.
Thalapathy Vijay's GOAT, has been thriving since its release on September 5 as it has grossed over ₹300 crore worldwide in just five days. Directed by Venkat Prabhu, this sci-fi action thriller has sparked a frenzy among fans since its special preview screening. The movie was released in five languages but it has excelled in Tamil, accounting for more than half of the total collection, its performance in Telegu and Hindi has been somewhat disappointing. Prabhu has recently shared his insights into the reasons behind its underwhelming reception in Hindi following the online rage.
GOAT's poor collection in Hindi and Telegu version
In India, Venkat Prabhu's movie has collected ₹151.75 crore in just five days, with the Tamil version contributing a whopping ₹134.1 crore. However, the Hindi version has performed relatively poorly, earning only ₹13.76 crore in six days, with an everyday decline in earnings.
Similarly, the Telegu version has seen a consistent drop in collections, totaling ₹23.8 crores in six days. The film's limited release in Hindi and Telugu, as well as its absence from major cinema chains like PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis, contributed to these lower figures.
Venkat Prabhu's reason for GOAT failure in Hindi
Amid online trolling, Venkat Prabhu recently addressed the poor performance of Thalapathy Vijay's latest film in the Hindi and Telugu markets. During an interaction with fans on X/Twitter, Venkat suggested that his allegiance to a particular Indian Premier League ( IPL ) team might have affected the film’s reception in these regions. His X bio reveals him as a passionate supporter of the Indian cricket team and the Chennai Super Kings .
Venkat Prabhu shared his thoughts on X, saying, “Due to my support for Chennai Super Kings , Mumbai Indians and RCB fans tease me.” He chuckled and added in Tamil, “We’re all CSK fans; it’s in our blood. Perhaps this connection to CSK is why the movie didn’t resonate with Telugu and Hindi viewers. They might not have experienced the film the way we did.”
Prabhu also mentioned that the movie’s thrilling climax was inspired by ‘Die Hard’. They had hoped to enhance the scene with a surprise cameo from former CSK captain MS Dhoni , but the plan didn’t come to fruition. As Venkat put it, “We just couldn’t make it happen.”
The film features Vijay, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Laila, Sneha, Ajmal, Mohan, Jayaram, Vaibhav, Premji, and Aravind Akash, with music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
