The makers of Indian 2 released a brief intro teaser earlier today, giving a sneak peek into their film’s universe and marking the return of ‘Indian’ the iconic vigilante character played by Kamal Haasan in Indian (aka Hindustani), the 1996 film by Shankar.
Indian 2 returns to Shankar's favourite themes
The teaser begins with a dialogue from Kamal Haasan’s character announcing that he will be at any and every place that is tainted with injustice. The Indian 2 intro teaser then goes on to briefly capture the societal issues the is going to touch upon, which are very similar to the themes touched upon in the prequel - corruption on every bureaucratic level, be it job postings or government contracts.
However, Shankar has edited the teaser of this heavy message-laden film with great pacing and a very peppy yet rousing soundtrack by Anirudh Ravichander. The song titled Come Back Indian is set to an expansive collage of people coming together and standing in support of their vigilante hero.
By the look of this teaser, Indian 2 promises to be a massively mounted spectacle, very much on the lines of its 1996 predecessor.

Indian 2 has been in the making since 2019
Apart from Kamal Haasan, the film also stars Siddharth, Kajal Aggrawal, S.J.Suryah, and Rakul Preet Singh in prominent roles. The teaser also gives a brief glimpse of legendary Telugu comedian Brahmanandam who is part of the film’s cast. Also, in a notable development, Shankar is collaborating with Anirudh Ravichander for the first time with this film, instead of working with his frequent collaborator A.R.Rahman.
Indian 2 has been in the making for a long time. The discussions for making an Indian sequel began as earlier as 2015. The film’s shooting began in early 2019. However, due to CoVID pandemic, the makers of Indian 2 decide to postpone the film’s production and release until they found the situation suitable enough for a big release. Indian 2 is tentatively scheduled to release in April 2024.
