Tamil actor Karthi, whose latest film Japan released on Friday, recently spoke about working with his brother Suriya in future, among other subjects. Karthi was in a conversation with popular filmmaker-actor Gautham Vasudev Menon when the subject came up.

Was initially scared to share screen with brother Suriya, says Karthi

Karthi mentioned that the most important reason why they haven't worked together yet is that both are very picky actors in terms of choosing scripts. Karthi also stated, “Initially I was very scared to share the screen with my brother,” adding that eventually both the brothers had a strong feeling that they should collaborate on screen, but never found a script that excited both of them in the same manner.

Among other subjects, Karthi also recalled his early years in the Tamil film industry when he worked as an assistant for stalwart Mani Ratnam on films like Ayutha Ezuthu, where Suriya was one of the main leads, and designed posters for the Gautham Vasudev Menon film Kaakha Kaakha, where Suriya played the protagonist. Remember his days as an assistant director for Mani Ratnam, Karthi stated, “I found direction so exciting. I was even sitting through the writing process with Mani sir for next one year before my debut acting project Paruthiveeran happened.”

Japan collected ₹7.15 crore nett in 2 days

Both Karthi and Suriya went on to work separately for major filmmakers like Gautham Vaseudev Menon, Lokesh Kanagraj etc, but the two never shared screen.
