Kamal Haasan, Shankar Becomes Target Of Meme Fest After Indian 2 OTT Release: Worst Film Contender

Over four years in the making, Kamal Haasan starrer Indian 2 released on the big screens on July 12. The movie was released on a pan-India scale but did not do well at the box office. In fact, it was widely panned by the audiences. On Netflix, Indian 2 started streaming on August 9, within a month of its theatrical release. The OTT release of the film has spawned a meme fest on social media, with both Shankar and Haasan becoming the target of jokes.

Meme fest after Indian 2 OTT release

Many clips of shoddy work by Shankar and his team in Indian 2 have been going viral on social media. Not only does it showcase subpar filmmaking on Shankar's behalf but also poor acting performances by Kamal Haasan and other cast members.

Sharing Indian 2 clips on social media, an X user wrote, "Worst from Shankar sir ." Another netizen wrote, "Indian 2, A colossal waste of India - Shankar, what have you done? The first 20 mins were unbelievably unbearable, and Sid was unlimitedly annoying! I thought Kamal’s entry would be a saving grace, but his introduction scene was like a spoof!"

What is Indian 2 about?

The sequel to the movie Indian, directed by Shankar, features an ensemble cast including Haasan, Samuthirakani, Bobby Simha, Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh and Priya Bhavani Shankar. Haasan features in the vigilante action drama as Veerasekaran Senapathy. Indian 2 has music by Anirudh Ravichander and has writers Jayamohan, Kabilan Vairamuthu and Lakshmi Saravanakumar on board.

On the work front, Haasan will next feature in Mani Ratnam's Thug Life. He recently announced his decision to temporarily quit hosting Bigg Boss Tamil, after being the leading face of it for seven years.
