Director Lokesh Kanagaraj's latest action-thriller, Leo, featuring Thalapathy Vijay in the lead role, has taken the box office by storm. The film achieved remarkable milestones within its first week of release. On the seventh day of its release, Leo raked in Rs 12 crore across all languages in India, according to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk. In just one week, the film has crossed Rs 250 crore in India and surpassed the colossal mark of Rs 500 crore worldwide, as per Seven Screen Studio, the film's production house.

Leo becomes the second-highest-grossing Tamil film

Currently, Leo's domestic collection stands at Rs 262 crore. This makes it the second-highest-grossing Tamil language film of the year, trailing only behind Rajinikanth's Jailer which amassed Rs 343.47 in lifetime collection. Furthermore, the film has also earned the distinction of becoming the third-highest-grossing Tamil film of all time after Jailer and 2.0, both headlined by Rajinikanth.

Leo shatters box office records

Leo kicked off its journey at the box office with a great start, registering the second-highest opening for a Tamil film in history, with Rs 64 crore on day one. The momentum continued with Rs 35 crore on day two, Rs 39 crore on day three, Rs 41 crore on day four, Rs 35 crore on day five, and Rs 31 crore on day six, as per the official numbers shared by the film's production house Seven Screen Studio. Although the film's primary revenue source is Vijay's home state of Tamil Nadu, it has also made a mark in Kerala, amassing Rs 2 crore on day seven.

An interesting aspect of Leo's success is its performance in the Hindi dubbed version. Despite not being released in multiplexes due to a theatrical release window dispute, the film managed to collect over Rs 15 crore.

Part of the excitement surrounding Leo can be attributed to its connections with director Lokesh Kanagraj's cinematic universe, which includes acclaimed films like Karthi's Kaithi and Kamal Haasan's Vikram. Remarkably, Leo has outperformed both of these movies, leaving fans eagerly awaiting whether it can surpass Jailer's global collection of Rs 604 crore.
